Customer Reviews
IMAGE QUALITY: I feared that cramming so many megapixels onto this sensor, there would be a lot of image 'noise' (the megapixel myth). This thankfully hasn't been an issue, and I've been very pleased with the pictures taken with this camera! Apart from the White Balance, the picture quality is very nice.!
VIDEO: Many people commented that the video in a DSLR is just a gimmick. I disagree. Based on sample clips I'd seen on YouTube, I was excited about getting an HDSLR, and while videos are sometimes shaky if you don't have very steady hands, a tripod eliminates those concerns. Audio quality on the T1i was criticized by many, but the EOS Rebel T2i has a microphone input jack, which allows you to connect a mic. I can not comment because I do not have, but I shall add my comments after I have.. Additionally, this offers improved recording options, including higher fps (frames per second) than the T1i, which technically offered "true HD" recording of 1080, but only at a choppy 20 fps.
LOW-LIGHT PERFORMANCE: I am much more impressed than I expected. My Rebel XS could go up to ISO 1600, but perform poorly there. This camera can achieve a higher ISO, and good performance.. You save time in editing images with least image noise!

Frequently Asked Questions...
Comparing these two lens:Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS...or the...Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD ?
obvious price difference, I'm concerned the Tamron'slack of image stabilization. Pls compare these two lens for the novice shutterbug such as myself, Rebel XSi looking to move up from a kit lens. (I presently have the kit 18-55 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens). ..or another alternative?
thnx.,
Answer:
The Canon is better hands down. The Tamron doesn't even come close in image quality.
IS is not required on small lenses like these though. Where it is truly beneficial is in longer telephoto lenses. A good rule of thumb is that your shutter speed should match or exceed your focal length if you are hand holding. This is why IS is important on longer lenses. It is much harder to get a shutter speed of 1/300th of a second than it is to get 1/60th.
Before you choose either lens though you need to ask yourself why do you want to replace the kit lens. Do you need the larger aperture? Also do you know how to use the camera in manual mode? If you only use the auto and scene modes then the larger F2.8 aperture wont do you much good. The camera very rarely will automatically choose the largest aperture.
The other thing to consider is if you need something else. Do you need a telephoto zoom, an even wider angle zoom or a macro lens.
The Canon lens is a very good lens but for the money you could get an L series EF lens which will work on the full frame cameras if you ever upgrade to one. The EFs lenses will not. In the near future I see full frame DSLR's being considerably cheaper than they are now. They will be a viable alternitve for the hobbyist. It would be good to be able to use your lenses on one. Especially when you spend $1,000 on it.
If you want to get a high quality lens in the same focal length range as this you should take a look at the following EF lenses as well.
Canon EF 17-40 F4L $700
Canon EF 16-35 F2.8L $1,300
Canon EF 24-70 F2.8L $1,200
A near perfect set up for your camera would be the following lenses in my humble opinion.
Canon EFs 10-22mm wont work on full frame but you need this lens for ultra wide angle shots on the smaller sensor DSLR's.
For full frames the 16-35 F2.8 would be great.
Canon EF 24-70 F2.8L
Canon EF 70-200 F4L IS or the F2.8L IS version
Canon EF 100mm F2.8 macro
Add to this the 50mm F1.8 that you already have and you shouldn't need much else.
I realize that all this will cost a fortune but it is something to consider as you build your collection of equipment.
