Frequently Asked Questions...
converting a film lens into digital focal length?
i have a nikon d50 digital camera with a digital 18-55mm lens on it
i inherited some of my dad's old lenses for his 35mm film camera.
such as:
a 200mm telephoto lens
a 500mm mirrored zoom lens
a 52mm fixed focal length lens
how do i convert the focal length into digital?
i sort of know how to do it, but am not 100 percent sure.
i think you have to divide 1.6 with whatever the focal length is and that will give you the correct focal length..it's very confusing for me.
will someone help me out? thanks
Answer:
With Nikon D50 it is roughly a 1.5 x so a
You multiply the lens by 1.5 x more to get an approx length.
200mm Film lens would be 300mm in DX
500mm would be 750mm in DX
52mm would be 78mm in DX
you can not use DX lenses in film cameras, well you can but the only image you will get is a circle in the center of the frame with the frame edges blacked out,
