Canon 60D vs 550D vs 7D - which one is better?
Canon 60D Vs T3i - How Do These Two Digital SLR Cameras Stack Up?
Maybe you will question why the Canon Rebel T3i vs 60D question is even worth thinking about here. Do they have enough differences to even be marketed together? Without doubt, it is something Canon must have thought about long and hard. It could be puzzling because they seem to be aimed at the identical digital camera market share.
Upon further consideration, you will find that there are indeed three digital SLRs in the Canon digital camera line-up with the indentical 18-megapixel image sensor. The other camera is the 7D from Canon. The plot thickens!
In spite of the fact that the 7D shares the same image sensor, it's simply not in the same ball park as the Canon Rebel T3i or 60D. The 7D is more of a semi-pro to pro level camera, which is proven by the market and buyers that are attracted to it. But let's not talk of the 7D for this article.
The Canon Rebel T3i is a legitimate upgrade of the previous Rebel (the T2i) since it inherits or improves upon all the hardware and software in that former model. However, there is quite a bit of controversy among pixel peepers about the legitimacy of the Canon 60D being called an "upgrade" because of the fact that it does not improve on all the hardware and software of the 50D.
Well, "it is what it is," as they say when something can't be explained. "Upgrade" or "downgrade" is not the question here. This is about comparing two digital cameras. This becomes quite plain when the sales numbers are shown. Those who are buying seem oblivious to the "upgrade or downgrade" question.
The bottom line here is, "Which camera seems to fit your needs or desires?"
The image quality will be identical since they have the same 18-megapixel sensor along with a Digic 4 processor. They also sport the same body construction. But there are some differences to point out.
Which of the following feature differences are most crucial for you?
There is no weather seal in the construction of the Rebel T3i, but the 60D has been built with environmental sealing.
There is also a difference in shutter speed - the T3i's fastest shutter is 1/4000 which is only half the speed of the other camera, plus it has a sync shutter speed for flash of 1/200 sec compared to 1/250 sec. These two shutter speed differences can be significant depending upon the lighting of a particular shot.
The Canon 60D also comes out on top in the "Continuous Burst" contest with 5.3fps compared to the 3.7fps you can get with the T3i. If you are into action photography, this is a major difference.
Each camera has a 9-point auto focus setup, but they are not equal. In the 60D all 9 points are cross-type auto focus points. This is not true with the T3i in which only a single point in the center is a cross-type focus point. Believe it or not, this makes a noticeable difference in the way the auto-focus system works.
A word about Video. The Canon T3i has one feature that the 60D cannot match. Digital Zoom is a feature that allows the videographer to use 3x-10x zoom while in video mode. Using this zoom feature, you can use a normal lens and get super telephoto videos with great quality.
Other ways these two cameras differ include size and weight, battery type, and what you actually see through the viewfinder. Oh, and price. For most people, price is a major player in the buying decision. It ordinarily is for nearly all photographers.
