Canon PowerShot G12 Review for Black Friday Sale 2010
Best compact digital camera for Black Friday 2010, the Canon PowerShot G12 is designed to offer superior performance, meeting the needs of both professionals and advanced amateurs. The higher ISO sensitivities allow users to capture subjects in motion, leaving little chance of blur caused by motion.
The dedicated ISO dial allows precise control of ISO sensitivity level, with possible adjustments of 1 / 3 point. The PowerShot G12 has a 5x wide optical zoom lens of 28 mm, which allows users to capture breathtaking landscapes from close to distant subjects. This goal, which benefits the broad legacy of Canon lens design has been developed using the same processes and quality requirements as those used in the manufacture of the range of Canon EF lenses, which ensures a crisp, detailed photos, while maintaining a compact size, with the goal being retracted into the camera body when not in use.

whats so good about the 50 mm - f/1.8 II EF Canon Lens ?
i have a canon t1i and am thinking of purchasing this lens given all the hype but don't know what it would be good for i use just my regular kit lens.

It makes for an excellent low light lens on a full frame body, cheap, compact, light, excellent optically, fast max aperture.
On a cropped sensor camera such as a rebel, 50d or 7D it is a little less versatile, still great for lowlight but its effective 80mm makes it a little telephoto for some applications, however it makes a great portrait lens.
If you have your subject filling the frame from the crown of their head to their shoulders with this lens on an APS-C camera you have a brilliant flattering perspecitve for portraiture. The shallow depth of field also helps make the eyes very sharp (use Ai focus or use manual with live view 10x) and everything else fall off very quickly.
If you don't have a need for it then don't buy it. If you shoot in low light or do any portraiture then it is a must.

Is it worth the hype, absolutely.
