My Objective Review on Tamron 17-50 Lens
The Tamron 17-50 lens is a top flight alternative to Canon lens for your smaller digital SLR cameras like the Rebel XT. This is very small and lightweight and yet still provides excellent wide angle shots along with portraits.
The heart of the Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens is the three elements of XR glass; 2 hybrid aspherical lens elements and 1 element of LD glass. This technology built in this lens allows Tamron to create a great line of more compact, smaller diameter and shorter lens that fit perfect on the smaller DSLR cameras. Another advantage is to this technology is that there is no sacrifice of lens speed and it delivers an superior quality image as compared to older lens designs.
The crispness of the images created by using this lens is created by reducing what is called chromatic aberration ( the tendency of light of different colors to come to different points of focus at the image plane). The effect of chromatic aberration on your images is the loss of sharpness and that can simply ruin any pictures you try to take. By using glass with a very low dispersion index, Tamron can design their lens that combat the chromatic aberration.
The Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens is part of the SP (Super Performance) line of Tamron lens, which means it is designed to produce professional quality images for those needing the high quality pictures.
Positives of the Tamron 17-50 Lens:
- Lightweight designed for the smaller Canon DSLR cameras like the Rebel RT
- Widest angle in its class
- Very sharp quality images
- Very sharp and top quanlity XR Glass design
- Constant 2.8 aperture through the whole range (making it less likely to miss that all important shot)
- 6 year manufactures warranty
- Excellent price based on all of its features
Negatives of the Tamron 17-50 lens:
- Slow autofocusing in low light conditions
- The zooming was not very smooth
- Front Focus issues, not as expected
- Images were too soft and lacking clarity
- The Auto focusing is also annoyingly loud as compared to the Canon lens
In summary:
The Tamron 17-50 Lens is a high quality lens designed to compete with the Canon auto focus zoom lens on the DSLR camera bodies like the Rebel XT. The glass technology that is built into this lens and all of the SP line of lens from Tamron is designed to give professional quality pictures for everyone. The technology used by Tamron allows them to keep their lens compact and lightweight which is a definite plus. The Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens compares favorably to the Canon lens at a much better price point. With the speed of the Tamron 17-50 aperture at f/2.8 gives you the confidence that you will be able to catch all of the action and not have to worry that you won't be ready when it really counts.

Answer:
Just replace the word Nikon with Sigma, Tamron or any other cheaper brand. The numbers should basically stay the same if not veer too far from it.
Try www.bhphotovideo.com. You can search lenses by mount to see all available brands.
