Nikon D3s DSLR Camera
The Nikon D3s stands on the shoulders of an earlier giant, the D3 model launched more than 3 years ago in August 2007. Officially, it supersedes the D3. It provides evolutionary enhancements, rather than revolutionary innovations. The D3s is aimed at the high end professional dSLR market.
The D3s dSLR camera has superior continuous shooting capability. It can capture up to nine frames per second (bursting rate 9 fps), allowing it to snap-freeze time with exacting clarity and precision. To support its continuous capture, the camera has an expanded buffer. It allows up to 36 14-bit NEF (RAW) or 82 JPEG (fine) images. The expanded buffer means it now takes longer before the 9 fps bursting rate begins to slow.
The Nikon D3s comes with a High-Definition (HD) video making ability similar to the D5000 entry level Nikon or the higher-end DX format D300S. It produces videos in . Avi (moving . Jpeg) file format with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. Videos shoot at 24 fps. There is an in-built microphone (stereo) and a 3.5mm jack to hook-up an external microphone. Still images can be compiled from a video at 720 x 540 pixel resolution in . Jpeg format. A basic editing capability is provided in-camera.
The camera, with a base ISO sensitivity from ISO 200 to 12,800 makes it possible to capture previously impossible images - image opportunities which were often ignored because of low light levels. Now, in even more demanding lighting conditions, photographers can select expanded sensitivity settings of ISO equivalent 25,600, ISO equivalent 51,200 and an incredible ISO equivalent sensitivity of 102,400 which reveals detail in extreme low-light environments that challenge even the human eye’s ability to discern subject content. In addition, a setting of ISO equivalent 100 is provided.
There is a 51-point auto focus system that is accurate and lightening fast. It operates in four modes that works dynamically with fifteen cross-type sensors. Razor sharp focusing precision is easy with this D3s dSLR camera.
The Nikon D3s is a powerful machine aimed at professionals and serious amateurs, particularly those that value fast action shots. Easy to use and a pleasure to handle, its key abilities are high shutter speeds, greater depth-of-field and incredible performance in low light conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions...
since the Nikon AF-S 18-135mm DX lens doesnt have VR, would VR be neccessary up to 200mm?
Answer:
Actually when any my students show up with a VR lens, I have them turn off that feature so they have a better reason to learn to hold their cameras steady using the old tried and true methods used by photographers over the decades.
When they can finally shoot hand held a relatively slow shutter speeds, without camera movement blur (and I am evil and give out assignments that require slower shutter speeds), then the VR can be a very useful tool when having to shoot at say 1/8 of a second hand held.
VR at 200 mm + can be an advantage for a seasoned photographer, but you will notice at sporting events, we use at a minimum a monopod and when in the photographers well at MLB games, we have our longest lens on a tripod..
