The Amazing Nikon D3100 Digital SLR (Fourth Part)
This is the 4th part of my review of the Nikon D 3100 digital SLR camera.
So for different occasions or subjects you are going to need different focal length lenses. One option is to purchase and carry a variety of different lenses and some photographers do that. But wouldn’t it be convenient if you could get just one or two lenses that could change their focal lengths to suit most of the situations you are going to encounter? That is precisely what a zoom lens does and explains why they are popular and extremely useful. The numbers ( 55-200 mm for example) describe the shortest and longest focal lengths they provide.
For instance, an 18-55mm zoom lens is suitable for landscapes and general use whereas an 18-105 mm makes possible some medium telephoto work and taking portraits. A 70 -200 mm zoom lens would be used for portraits and telephoto photography, taking photographs of people from a distance for instance. By buying two different zoom lenses with your camera you can have a focal length available for most photographs you will want to take.
It is worth noting that there are single lenses which cover a wider focal length range such as 18-200mm. These tend to be more expensive, but depending on your budget they are well worth considering from the point of view of convenience if you expect to need that variety of zoom on the same day .
Summary
The Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera is an easy to use yet technologically advanced camera that can deliver superb results for both photographs and video. The wide choice of compatible lenses makes it extremely versatile. Weighing just 505g with a rechargeable battery and SD (secure digital) memory card inserted it is relatively light and offers excellent value for money for both the photographer getting their first SLR camera and the more experienced photographer purchasing a new model.

Frequently Asked Questions...
How to extend Nikon D3000 DSLR zoom ?
I own a Nikon DSLR D3000, and I am Using a Tamron 70 - 300 mm Lens. I am not satisfied with zoom I am geting, I Cant go for a Super Tele in my budget . Can anyone suggest Lense Convertor for higher zoon. what is other option for to get high zoom as that of a Bridge Camera.
Answer:
More reach would usually call for a fast telephoto lens and a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter.
With that lens you won't be able to use such a teleconverter unless you are willing to lose autofocus.
Those crazy 800mm (full frame equivalent) focal lengths of bridge cameras hence are not really available for DSLRs unless you intend to invest a lot of money.
